Wilfred Feng, Partner with Dacheng Shanghai Office, assisted a Chinese company in obtaining the Letter of No-objection (“LONO”) from Health Canada regarding the use of food contact substance Polyglycolic Acid (PGA).

PGA is a polymer material with excellent biodegradability and biocompatibility, which can degrade into carbon dioxide and water in the natural environment rapidly. By contrast, some materials claimed biodegradable are in fact compostable, that is, they can only fully biodegrade under specific artificial conditions. PGA, however, is a truly biodegradable material that can decompose naturally in the environment.

PGA exhibits excellent biocompatibility and can degrade into water and carbon dioxide in the human body. Therefore, it can be applied in surgical sutures, internal fracture fixation, tissue engineering repair materials, and controlled drug delivery systems, making it a highly promising material in the field of biomedical polymers.

Previously, the team led by Wilfred Feng had successfully assisted the client in obtaining No-Objection Letter from the U.S. FDA regarding the use of PGA in food contact substance.
